If you're reading this then
my guess is that you are either a parent of a twenty
something, or you are a twenty something wishing your
parents could or would understand what you're going through
as you navigate through the muck and confusion of deciding
what route to take to get and have a life. If you're
a parent then you know that the relatively straight and
narrow path of job stability and consistency that your parents
may have known was replaced, at the beginning of the
1990's, by the notion of every man and woman for him/her
self, serial job-career moves, little employer and employee
loyalty, lay-offs, etc. Some of us still pine
for those old days, and may silently still expect things
to be the way we saw things for our parents. Those
